Still being challenged by the person beside you

Running so hard that you can see your breath in the
midst of everything

Running so hard that you feel your heart coming out
of your chest, feeling the oxygen seeping out of your pores

Everything is going so fast that the brain can't think or feel
that your body is about to give into death and your body
can't stop holding on to wanting to win

Everything you think you feel is really not there to begin
with, so you ask God to let you do your best

To run so fast that you are flying like a cloud in the sky
But instead you are left down on the rubber floor in front
of everybody looking at you like you have just failed

When you fall on the floor, you tell yourself that all
of your dreams and goals, you had for yourself, have just
gone by like the girl that passed you and had won the race
