Array ( [sid] => 103362 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Schizophrenic [time] => 2005-08-12 20:00:51 [hometext] => this is a re-post of my last poem- i have made a few changes. it was inspired by a book about a schizophrenic boy- comments welcome [bodytext] => Voices,
Cloud my thoughts, cloud my mind,
Truth and lies, I no longer define,
So where to look,
And where to run,
Cover your ears and hide your eyes,
For it would be better to be blind,
Better to be blind,
You don't want to see a troubled man,

Turn away,
Cross the road,
Hold your children close,
Nobody wants to know a madman,

So walk on by,
I don't exist,
Just one man, there's nothing missed,
Everyone looks, but nobody sees,
Another psychotic on hands and knees,
Praying to see the fading light,

'Poor fellow, he seems alone',
Sighs a kindly man,
But you wouldn’t know, good sir,
For I shall never be alone,
Voices stalk my every move,
Voices strip away my sanity,
Voices

Surrounding me now,
Closing me in,
Coming nearer still,
Give in to the voices I will-
But then a sound of beauty rings,
It shuts me up and draws me in,
Never have I heard a voice like this,
She tells me of a path to bliss,

It tempts me,
Lures me in,
Jolts my heart to a pounding beat,
A melody for the weak she sings,
She tells me of a perfect place,
No more voices, no disgrace,
So readily, I grasp her hand-

But the woman fades to dust,
Now the devil’s drawing near,
Fires of hatred are burning bright-
He’s cornered me now,
Nowhere to look,
Nowhere to run,
Searched for an angel,
And to Hell I was led,
All this happened inside my head.

But don't you worry,
Don't you cry,
I'm just another, passing you by
A schizophrenic

Turn away,
Cross the road,
Hold your children close,
Nobody wants to know a madman,

It's a reflection of society one that to me has never changed, that the man in the street refuses to try and understand mental illness as though it doesn' exist.
I believe people should be educated and made more aware that mentally ill people have feelings.
But I suppose you can't teach empathy or can you?

Well written work.
