To withstand the fearful squall
Of the seething raging sea
Braving waves' high water wall
Is unalloyed futility.

Useless rudder, sail and oar,
While the winds, withdrawing, mutter,
Then returning, howl and roar
Crashing smashing oar and rudder.

Storms do often change direction,
And the wily winds may wail,
Keeping still, as in reflection,
Then returning, rip the sail.

Hard it is a craft to steer,
Easy to fall overboard,
Ship mates in their dread and fear,
Will implore for help the Lord.

Billows, rushing faster now,
High and higher comes the tide,
Doomed the ship's rear, doomed the bow,-
Starless, pitch dark is the night.

Silently He walks on water,
Untouched by the wind and gale.
Face illumined, garments flutter,
Riding billows, surf and swale.

Is this ghost illusory?
Treading upon surf and squall,
Fear foments man’s fantasy-
He is not terrestrial!

“It’s a ghost, disciples quake,
Phantom, ghost, an eidolon,
Let us steer for safety's sake
The boat a little further on.

Awe inspirihng is the sight!
Will the apparition stay?
Or keep wandering through the night?
Or pass us by along its way?.

None does know and none can say
There is more than meets the eye,
We can only hope and pray,
But it seems He is drawing nigh.

Now He speaks to them: "It's I,
Fear not! only look to me,
Lo! I heard your anguished cry,
Saw your great adversity.

"Centering on the sea you'll fail,
To do what you can do, - and must,
And sink as prey to storm and gale,-
For the world, lacks faith and trust“.

“Oh my children - do not fear!
It is I, - Salaam! Shalom!
I am with you, I am here;
Peace to you, - It’s I - I AM.

And you know, it is as simple as trusting in the Holy Spirit. This is a remarkable piece of true spirituality that I can accept in my heart and soul. Thank you, ED.

Elizabeth; The beautiful words have the same effect on my heart and soul as the Savior had on His disciples when they observed His appearance on the water during their moment of greatest fear. No matter the avenue, He is the ultimate cure for all of mankind’s fears. Knowing that I am always in His hands works wonders for me in my everyday trek through life’s many perils. You will be blessed abundantly for keeping His message of love for His flock before the world, so that the message of hope, and love, will never dim or fade. Kudos for such a wonderful write on such a much needed message for all who have ever been in fear, and seek peace. Cheers . . .

John

ED this is one of my most favorite stories in the whole Bible. Can you just imagine what the other must have thought when they saw Him walking on water? Of course they must have thought they were "seeing" things only in their fright! but not Peter. Bless Peter, he was full of faith, he was thinking" Well, if my Lord can do that so can I, but he got scared and lost his faith, and began to sink!"
I love Peter so much, because in a way I'm like him, I have so much faith, until I start to get scared, and then I sink! *smiles*
Wonderfully illustrated, and your poems are always right out of this world!
Warm love
consue

I know Jesus was right there in your hands as you wrote this treasure piece. Keep tattling on his words. He lives forever.

Another enjoyable poem by my favorite poet; who never disappoints. Excellent rhyme. Hard to decide which is best. This one, or " The Touch". Better rhyme: "Jesus walks" - and emotion drawing. More emotion drawing: "The Touch."

Elizabeth

The boat is the Church in ages of turbalent times.
Christ is God showing His power even over the elements.
Peter is us with our human fralities.
Again the boat is the Church our help and refuge
Christ the corner stone built upon Peter "The rock"
I love the way you have use of language.
Beautiful,wonderful meaningful poem.
Peace love & prayers

Sinned

Don't constrict yourself with rhyming. Especially about something so "powerfull" and whatnot.
