I’ve been left alone,
With a little light of warmth,
To shed away my tears.

The keeper locked the door,
And will not let me out,
Nor let himself in.

So I sit alone,
With my dim flicker,
Staring into the darkness.

The darkness which surrounds me,
That swallows me whole,
Only my flicker will keep it at bay.

I can only hold on to the candle,
But the light holds me,
Keeping me from dark.

The keeper maintains me in shadow,
Until he needs me,
Then he brings his light to join my dim flicker.

He covers me with light,
Blinding me within,
So he can use me.

I am his toy,
Merely a play-thing,
For his delight.

Nothing more,
Maybe less,
Only he can say.

And when he’s done,
He casts me back into darkness,
Until he needs me again.

But always I’ll have my dim flicker,
To hold, and be held in return,
And wait until he comes again. [comments] => 4 [counter] => 192 [topic] => 13 [informant] => AshRayne [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )

I'm not usually a fan of dark poetry but this was good. I like the light or flicker as you call it being the focal point and the many questions that are left open about the keeper and the subject. Good write. Christopher.

Nice write and I do enjoy some dark poetry.Your poem conveys the fear of a girl either captured or fantasizing either way it is a fearful poem. Keep your candle burning.
