THE PROPOSAL

Two elderly people reside in a
Florida mobile home residency
He was a widower, she
a widow and cheery.
Long time companions over many years.
This night they attended a party
together with peers.

Facing each other across the table,
He made admiring glances at her
and was thoughtful.....
Gathering his courage to ask her
"Will you marry me for bad or better?"

After about six seconds of careful consideration,
She replied, "Yes, Yes, I will, you nice person,"
When the meal ended they said good-bye
Each going to their respective homes nearby

The next morning he was troubled.
"Did she say 'yes' or did she say 'no'?"
he mumbled.
Try as he would, he couldn't recall!!
Not even a faint memory--his downfall,
With much trepidation he went to the
telephone and called her.
When she answered he began to murmur....

"I don't remember as well as I used to do."
Then he reviewed the lovely evening thereto.
Gathering up his courage, he then inquired,"
I asked you to marry me last night, was
I refused or honored?"

She was delighted that he called her back,
"Why, I said, "yes, yes I will, with no drawback."
"Glad that you called because I couldn't remember"
she said boldly
"Who it was that had asked me!"

Created from
an email....
the poem is mine.

This is one of my favourite poems by you. It really is so refreshing to read poetry about happier subjects and the twist at the end is just so typical of your style. Christopher.

As an oldie Consue I appreciate this one very much. It reminds me of an elderly couple that I once knew. Talk about forgetful. they gave us some great laughs. I remember one day the elderly lady asked her partner,"Did I put my knickers on before I left home?" his answer was. "We dont say knickers do we, we say panties nowadays." I and my loving wife were in fits laughing . Keep writing Consue hugs from Martha and bernard.

Absolutely "delightful"!

Bless you for your good humor, it's a thing most urgently needed.
This work makes the body and soul rejoice!
Oh how I love these sort of things!
Just what I needed so badly. and many others with me I bet..
Blessed are the cheerful!
Thanks for sharing ConSue
Warm love
Elizabeth
