Array ( [sid] => 102129 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Is God real? [time] => 2005-07-27 00:45:39 [hometext] => I have been debating this subject for a long time.. and last night.. I had a dream.. about it.. But, I'm still not sure if I'm truly convince.. Only time will tell. [bodytext] => With all the sorrow in the world,
And the horrors that persist.
The fact that God ignores it all,
Tells me God must not exist.

I see planes flown into buildings,
Bombs set off on crowded trains,
I see children raped and murdered,
Never finding their remains.

There are crooked politicians
Who conspire to take control,
There are priests who serve the body
And care nothing for the soul.

There are people who are starving,
Others suffer on our streets.
The environment is dying,
And the cycle just repeats.

So I climbed the highest building
And screamed at God above.
I said, why won’t you do something
If you are a God of love?

Then the skies began to darken,
Bolts of lightning crashing down,
As I looked I saw an Angel
With a scepter and a crown.

He bade me to cease my groaning,
My complaints had all been heard.
The Lord, he said, had charged him with
Delivering me His word.

The Angel continued speaking,
And His voice seemed so serene,
As he shared with me the reason
Why God doesn’t intervene.

He said, the evils in this world,
Result from our own free will.
It is we who make the choices
In hating enough to kill.

But if God were to intervene,
That would take away your choice.
No more free will to make mistakes,
No more questions, no more voice.

The only will you would follow,
Would be your Father’s above.
You’d have no choice in what you do,
Or the people that you love.

Like fish in an aquarium
With no chance to go beyond.
For they do not know their choices,
And they’ve never seen the pond.

Is this what you are longing for?
Shall He make it so for you?
Do you want God to make your choice?
What would you like Him to do?

I pondered what the Angel said,
And I finally understood.
There is a price for our free will,
For knowing evil and good.

It’s our responsibility,
Our range of choices are broad.
But when we choose the darker path,
We need to stop blaming God!

He’d never make that choice for us,
Evil is ours to fulfill.
And the consequences therein
Are the result of free will.

Then I heard a crash of thunder
As the skies began to clear.
And when the Angel disappeared,
His last words rang in my ear.

“You can choose what you believe in,
Pretend not to hear my voice.
You’ll find proof of God’s existence
In the fact you have that choice.”

as far as poetry goes: it was a good poem, flowed very nicely and was easy to read, so good job for that :).

As far as "does God exist?" I have chosen to believe so for many different reasons and I hope you will too...if you'd like to talk about it, lemme know, I'd love to :)

again, great poem

HE gave us dominion over the Earth and free will in our lives. Seems everytime something goes wrong though we ask him why, instead of carrying the responsibility of our own mistakes. It is really too bad that no one will ever know the answer of IF HE really exists or not until we die. So far, no one has come back to assure us or negate the fact. What do we have to lose by believing?

Great poem...the fact that you had such an awesome dream like this should indicate to you that He does exist, and He cares deeply for every person. Again, great poem. Faith is all you need.

Wonderful poem so much thought.
Does God exist ? He alows us to question and faith is a gift.To believe something unseen, but then look around nature people there He be yet not all see.
His message is but one.
His established Church is one.
Don't pray He come to you.
Rather pray He lead you to Him.
As they hated Me they will also hate you.
Being Christian is to be called to suffer.
Like pangs of childbirh these things will pass
Endure till I come
Satan romes our earth
The Holy Spirit spreads His truth.
Satans last sin--Death--will be defeated.
On a cloud all will see the Son of God.
All will see the Son of man.
For He said "I Am"

absolutely powerful piece! you've summed up the state of mind the world seems to be in these days. I especially love the ending.. it gave all the power to the reader to decide what to think of it.

very nice, insightfully written and i hope to read more.

keep it up

I agree with the point written somewhere above here that it really shows God's love for us that even though He is giving us a chance to do horrible things, He doesnt want to have to force us to love Him. The people that are the cause of all of those horrible things will not go unpunished come the end. I think this is a very well written and wise poem. I wish that people, whether they believe or not, would at least realize that God doesnt cause pain, and only allows it because He wants us to make our own choices. To say something like "well there's so much murder and killing and horrible things, if there's a God why does this happen?" that's dumb logic if you really take the time to understand, who God is, and that He is Love. I myself am a devout Christian, though i wasn't always...religion is a difficult thing, because you'll never have concrete proof that you can give someone see what you see. But God isn't about religion, it's about relationship. Once you believe though, and you've felt God in your life, i don't think there is any question. It's normal to doubt...but...well i'll just wrap this up. I would LOVE to talk to you, if you're unsure about what to believe, and answer any questions you might have. please just private message me. Again, great write, and God bless.
