Warm tears caress my flushed face.
I place my head above the glass and look down;
Look down as people have looked down on me!
As my head hangs over the glass tears fall into it.
Some tears travel past my mouth
And are caught by my cracked, dry lips;
The salty tears burn on my dry, cracked lips.
Tears drop into the glass making a salty pool of fate;
Each drop, the only sound in the dark and silent room.

Sitting back, looking at the glass from the side,
I begin to wonder is it half empty, or half full?
Dim light escapes from the street into my room,
A cat stares at me with it’s accusing yellow eyes;
Momentary distractions from my main focus,
Yet the distractions are significant all the same.
A wonder is found in the simplicity of the object at hand,
Yet the complex nature of the question it poses.
We ask it the question, ‘half empty, or half full’?
But it never answers us; it stays silent for all eternity!

Sit; watch me through the eyes of that mangy little cat,
View me through the dark room with the dim ray of light.
Can you see it? Can you see what they have all seen?
That mangy little cat, staring with it’s accusing eyes,
It senses the insanity that slowly grows in my mind.
Each passing hour not one thing changes, it is all the same!
The glass has not moved nor has its contents,
A dim ray of light is still entering my room from the street,
Little accursed cat continues to accuse my mentality,
All while I sit and stare into the glass, wondering.

Many hours of staring and wondering have gone by,
The sun begins to rise, the streetlights turn off.
All that remains is my furry little friend that has not budged,
Me, and my glass half filled with warm salty tears.
After hours my question still has not been answered.
My body is beginning to grow heavy from exhaustion,
Collapsing on my desk I knock the glass over,
And the pool of fate that was formed vanishes into the carpet.
During my sleep I get to dream but the question still haunts me,
There is one conclusion; the glass always ends up empty! Half Empty, Half Full
