She cannot fly.
Weighed down by concrete wings
She strives to touch the sky,
But she cannot leave the ground.
These wings poverty has wrought
Will not let her soar as she dreams.
They keep her from all she's sought
And she can't keep believing.
Can't keep believing in the face of hardship.
Her spirit has been broken by these concrete wings.
Like a slave broken by the crack of a whip.
The injustices of destitution
Have lost her her fight against fate.
Dragged down by what should help her fly:
Her wings. Each feather a dead weight.
Education: minimal. She weighs a little more.
Money: none at all. She tries to jump.
Love: non-existant. She falls back.
Support: failing. She slips down.
Hope: dying. She lands hard right where she started from.
This girl who cannot fly; who will not fly
Can't imagine her dreams without flight.
She can't imagine her life without hope.
Her dream to fly brings her hope.
And she could not live without
For it is all that keeps her breahting.
That hope that one day she will soar,
Break free from her concrete wings
And just fly. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 166 [topic] => 21 [informant] => brokenbutterfly [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

what a strong message delivered with such sadness... I thought the picture really helped nail the message home about the bleakness of the girl's plight...

great imagery, powerful emotions.

thanks for sharing reality, and keep it up.
