When she burnt her bridges, she
Scattered the ash
Tossed my poems and photos out
With the trash
Packed her bags and just disappears
Why do good times always end in tears
She called me once from a phone in New York
Telling me it would never work
Had to shed me like a second skin
You don’t know the pain she left me in.

(Chorus)

I wrote my heart out in a plea, cause
She went and disconnected her phone
All I got was the letter back
Telling me ‘address unknown’
I followed her voice halfway around the world
Found her living in another zone
When I told I still burned for her
She said ‘I’m sorry that girl’s not home’.

Now I’m standing in the mess of my life, wondering
How to make sense it all
How do you hold the ones you love to your heart
When they’re the ones who choose to depart
I could always go and follow her lead
Give up when it gets too tough
Throw it all away and hit the road
Make a run for it when love ain’t enough
Still I wonder about the hole in my heart
Could I fill it with another love
We can wipe the memories clear from the shelves
But we always have to live with ourselves.

(Chorus)

I wrote my heart out in a plea, cause
She went and disconnected her phone
All I got was the letter back
Telling me ‘address unknown’
I followed her voice halfway around the world
Found her living in another zone
When I told I still burned for her
She said ‘I’m sorry but you’re on your own’.

I'm wondering if you've written music to go along with the lyrics. I hope so, I really like this, Spike.

You are a great story teller or you have been through this before. In either case you have written this poem perfectly. Great job.

The title caught me. Wow, this poem/song is awesome. It describes great pain in a very poetic way. I guess sometimes the heart makes mistakes, and we follow it because, hey, love is the best cause in the world. Then crash and burn. Maybe love wouldn't be love if it were possible to hold on to it all the time.
Well, take care. Good job, and sorry for rambling.
David
