I was cleaning out my room,
With a garbage bag in one hand,
And the other held a broom.

I opened my closet,
and dug to the back,
Where I found something old,
Inside a torn sack.

I yanked it out,
Then looked inside,
And saw an old toy,
That use to always be at my side.

I took it out of the bag,
And looked at it hard,
Her clothes had turned gray,
And her stuffing was jarred.

She was my doll.
And her name was Sue,
I can remeber when I first got her,
When she was still new.

Her hair was yarn red,
Her dress was bright and clean,
Her soft fabric was bendable,
And her smile was always seen.

But over the years she's changed.
Her dress was no longer blue,
her head is full of dust,
and she's missing a shoe.

Time has slipped away,
And took the color from her hair,
But, it didn't take everything,
Because something's still there.

I still have my memories,
my sentimental thoughts,
Even though shes been in my closet,
and she sits and rots.

I looked at her once again,
And decided she would stay,
So I put her in a bag,
So I could store her away.

House later I finished my room,
And cleaned it very well,
Then I put my items outside,
To sell if they would sell.

A tag sale I had,
And I waited to see,
If people would come,
And they DID come to me.

I sold my things,
and made a lot of money,
But then something happened,
and it was rather funny.

A little girl came to me,
and she was holding a bag,
Can I have this? She said,
And I almost had to gag.

She took out my doll.
And I wondered how,
How it got out here,
and what could I do now?

And I realized, I had put it in the wrong bag,
The bag of trash,
Not for saving,
So it was brought outside to make cash.

Well? She said,
her smile had a gap,
She looked about four,
Then yawned for a nap.

What do I do?
This is my doll.
But what is it to me now?
I'm so old and tall.

I stared at the girl,
And she stared back,
And I said yes little girl,
You may have the doll in the sack.

Her eyes filled with joy,
And she was happy I know,
She turned away skipping,
And I watch my memories go.

But then I realized something,
That i did not know,
As my memories die,
The little girl's will grow.
