[time] => 2003-01-09 18:40:00 [hometext] => in some sense this is my autobiography -- i write poetry -- all the changes and chances of my life are incidental to my poetry [bodytext] => as a youth, shallow and inexperienced,
i smoked a pipe and wrote poetry,
the pipe is gone, the poetry remains

as a lover i wrote poetry to melt my ladies’ heart,
“seize the day, my sweet, whoever...”
the loves are gone, the poetry’s still here

from time to time the Censor in my head
has convinced me, or nearly so, that i
should grow up and put away my pen.

sometimes the world has so wrung and
worried and wearied me that for a time
there seemed no room nor time for poetry

but the laughing muse who fills my heart
with sight and song not check nor censor
knows: Poetry flows and overflows

i can not stop it, i will not try
in spite time and tides, toll and tally
i still write poetry

Very nice write. I haven't written anything new for almost a month. Almost time to get back to it. Thanx for a great read. *S* Cynthia

I've been away for so long..really missed reading all the poetry. I had a horrible lull in my writing..got something out tonite but miss the constant thoughts that kept my mind working. I really like this poem here. Poetry is the one thing that has stayed constant in my life. No matter what else has ever come and gone..poetry has always been there...even in my many blocks it has still been there. And as long as I can help it, it will always be there...

My words, my life, put my pen down?
Ha your in a daze, i will not frown..
My ink is what is constant with me
I'll write until you cannot read

But if sometimes i leave a while
It's only part of my own style
Sometimes we need a break from this
To come back ten fold oh how im missed...
This is beautiful aernby....i really enjoyed this one...i've felt this way many times my friend....love this one...

The "battle" between the Censor in your head and the Muse in your heart captures my imagination... I'd love to read a poem about the two of them, and their quarrels...

I like the first two stanzas, the way they parallel. I'll bet you could add a few more in the same style if you wanted to.

I can absolutely relate! I am happy to find that I am not alone in writing poems about poetry. It is... that big, I guess... for me and obviously for you as well! Thanks for sharing this! I enjoyed it very much!
