The secrets that lie within are dark and dangerous.
Ones I hold close to my heart, though they darken my soul.
The chains that bind me, tightens as I withdraw further.
There’s a hole inside me, widening as I try to break free.
Then I ask myself, why I bother when I go deeper.
So hurt I am that I feel to drown though I think I already am.
Sigh... isn’t it strange that when we’re supposed to make the best out of life.
We fall flat on our faces and are expected to get back up grinning.
So I grin and bear it and not show how much conflict there is inside.
Sometimes I regret the lies knowing it cost me more than I care to admit.
But I learnt that in life many things will get you down, and what makes us different is how we deal.
Maybe if I learn to trust, but trust cautiously, I won’t be so down as I am now.

It's all too easy to withdraw and build up walls of pride, and then hide in their dark corners, in this cold culture. But it does indeed make us miserable. Trusting is never easy, but if we grow in wisdom and discernment, we can better tell what to put our trust in.
I just ended my sentence with a preposition! Ah well. Good work, and fight well, and may your cause be true.
Andrew
(thinking that selflessness also plays in here, because if we learn not to focus on ourselves all the time, broken trusts will not devestate as much, and we'll be the more ready to learn from them. But enough. Good piece - It certainly had me rambling) |
