I WISH YOU ENOUGH

They had just announced the departure
I couldn't help but overhear mother and daughter.
As they hugged, the mother said,
"I love you and I wish you enough."
Said the daughter "Mom our life together
has always been more than enough.
Your love is all I ever needed.......
I wish you enough too Mom,
stay tough!"

They kissed and hugged, the daughter departed.
Walking over to the window, I observed
the mother so downhearted.
I didn't want to intrude--I didn't want to be rude,
Then she spoke, "Did you ever say good-bye
to someone with forever imbued?"

I replied, "Yes, I have, forgive me for asking,
why is this a forever goodbye?"
"I am old you see, face many challenges, she lives far away.
I have no one on whom I can rely.
Realty is, next visit for her will be to my funeral.
"How very sad, Why did you utter, 'I wish you enough'
or is that personal?"

"That's a wish that has been handed down to me from
many generations.
My parents used to say that to everyone,
they were Germans.
Pausing a moment then looking up as if
trying to remember it in detail.
She smiled even more. "When it is we said,
'I wish you enough' to prevail."

Wanting the other person to have a life fulfilled,
Just enough good things to sustain them
so they could continue to build.
Turning toward me she shared the following.....
reciting from her memory--

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate even more
the sun's light.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive,

I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life
will appear bigger live.

Also, I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess
from your longing.

I wish you enough hellos to get you through the
final good-bye"

She then turned and walked away as she began to cry.

The story was sent
to me by a dear friend.....
The poem is mine.

I have been so blessed and fortunate ConSue. I loved your poem and the context. If we all could be like your poem---we could change the world.

Beautiful words.

A lovely and most touching peace ConSue. I cannot but echo the foregoing commenters.

is an indispensable part of happiness."

ConSue. First let me thank you for the Pictures. I have used one of them and the others are in my picture file waiting for the right poem or story. I wish you enough brought the tears to my eyes once again. Sad but brilliantly written and the picture says it all.
Love and Hugs from martha and bernard.
We wish You enough ConSue.
