Or dead perhaps?
No, I stumbled upon the spiritual world
And my body collapsed

The silver currents pulled me under
I could not breath I could only stare and wonder
My body felt light and I floated in the air
Then I screamed when I saw my body lying there

What have I done? Am I dead?
I reach out but I am pulled back by invisible thread
‘Come with me, child of the light’
‘Come with me and learn of the spirit’s flight’

I floated away through my window and into the sky
‘Oh God’ I whispered ‘Please say I didn’t die!’
As I float away I shed tears of pain
I feel as if the life I had was all in vain

The silver current carries me and the sky turns black
‘Take a last look child of the light for you won’t be coming back’
Then the sky rips open and my terror is true
Creatures pour out to me with gleaming eyes and limbs askew
‘Child of the light, did you really think we would never catch you?’

My childhood fears
The monsters under the bed and in the closet
They had all been real and I had failed to stop it
I fly away, vision blinded by tears

‘Get her! Kill her now!’
I know I’m done for but I run anyhow
The things that had haunted my dreams
Now they were chasing me and oh how their eyes did gleam

‘Kill her! Kill her! Devour her face!’
‘Kill her and leave no trace!’
I close my eyes, I’m not really here
I open my eyes and feel the pain sear

The monsters grab me, I feel their warm breath
They smell of sulfur, they scream into my ears until I am deaf
Using their clawed fingers they burn my eyes
Not another tear will I ever cry

Blind and beaten I still flail and struggle
The monsters hold me down with a small chuckle
Then each of them takes a turn
Each of them taking only what my true love could have earned

Wails and shrieks escape my lips
I scream as I feel every drop of blood, every tear and rip
A claw plunges into my chest
Crimson blood spills onto my perfect white chest

The monsters gurgle with triumph
They hold up my heart and I hope they’ve taken enough
Yet their eyes gleam and I know I still have more yet to come
Searing pain turns from a throb to a dull hum

They hold out a stone that I know can only be
The object with which they will completely own me
The monsters toss it into my ruined chest
How I wish they could have just let me have my final rest

Electric pain shoots through my body
My body spasms and I can feel my flesh rotting
From my back burst spikes and reptilian wings
The monsters chant and dance as they hear my screams

My hair becomes black and my skin covered in fur
My teeth turn to fangs and I wonder how much more I can endure
My spine feels like it’s ripped out
And yet when I turn around I see a tail and I shout

‘Why must this happen to me?’
‘I have nothing of value as you can plainly see!’
The current tickles my new pointy ears
‘Not anymore you don’t’ confirming my fears

‘Come child, come deeper into the night’
‘Let us continue our lovely little flight’
Deeper into the dark I am carried
For a fleeting moment I see my body being buried

‘Am I in hell? If so what am I doing here?’
Once again the sliver current taunted my ears
‘You are in the dark my dear’
‘You are in the place with everything you ever feared’
‘You are mine now child, on our journey we will embark’

It's not 'like' you've been to this place...
You HAVE been to this place...
this place is part of your life...
I too have been to this place.
