Who followed me home
"Why are you here?
My child, I don't want you alone".

I being foolish
And young and naive
Pretended nothing was wrong
"Angel, it's you I don't need."

A sorrow-filled look
Appeared upon her face
Perhaps it is possible
I had just put her in her place
She stood still
She would not move
"I'm here to help"
She began to sooth

"Help with what?
Everything's fine!"
"My dearest child,
Are you blind?"

My angel wouldn't listen
Nor would she leave
So I walked away
Needing something to believe

Hours had passed
And I had forgotten
The angel outside
The situation I was caught in

I turned on the television
The one that raised me
It was a good friend of mine
The best it could ever be

I heard voices from the basement
Yelling back and forth
This was not unusual
My parents running their course

I snatched the remote
Increasing the sound
If I couldn't hear them
Nothing was going down

The volume was up
As loud as it could go
Yet I still heard
My mother shriek, "No!"

My heartbeat growing faster
My mind on a race
What was happening?
Dear Lord, what was the case?

I heard a loud bang
Perhaps a gunshot
Deep down I knew
It'd be the last time they fought

My friend couldn't help me
The dear old T.V.
I felt fear dawning
That the next victim would be me

Acting upon instinct
I ran for the door
Getting outside I succeeded
But I was stopped like before

My angel stopped me
And held me close to her heart
It was clearly my angel
That kept me from falling apart

"I am so sorry
I was wrong!"
"You're forgiven my child,
With me you belong."

"Who are you?
And why are you here?"
"I am your angel,
Isn' that clear?

You ran away
Denied you needed help
But here's a fact
No one can make it by themselves

Everyone is needy
Helpless human beings,
That is why God created,
Your guardians with wings."
