Activities For You and Your Children
Some ideas brought to you from Mick and his children.

BOXES OF FUN

Here is some fun for those days when we are stuck inside with lots of energy to expend. Great for rainy days or when it's just too cold to go out.

What you will need

Cardboard Boxes of different sizes.
A few old sheets or blankets
Masking tape.

What To Do

Get some boxes of different sizes from your local supermarket or store, the larger the better, they are usually happy to let you have as many as you need. Now let your children loose with their imaginations, building cubby houses, tunnels and towers from the boxes. Help them by using your imagination as well as the masking tape to hold it all together, and remember, it doesn't matter if the boxes are squashed or damaged.
When they have lost interest in building their cubby houses etc, you can use the remaining good boxes to make box "cars" or to make boxes for them to store their toys in. The flattened boxes also come in useful, I use these to make car ramps for the boys to play on with their toy cars, racing them down, creating more fun for them. You can also use the flattened boxes out in the garden, I put them over the top of garden beds where I do not want the weeds to grow, they soon break down into the soil.

Helpful hints...

Try not to get the "waxed" boxes that some fruits come in, these are no good in the garden afterwards, and can also make a bit of a mess of the carpets as the wax rubs off of them.
If you have just moved, as I have, remember to store all the boxes for later times for play, the fold down flat and do not take up much room at all.

Now, go and enjoy your quality time with the children.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
