Eternal Strife

Black as a starless, moonless night.
This is the color of my soul.
I am so alone in this lack of light
With no one to console
Me in this abyss of agony.
Feelings and thoughts of suicide and death
Escape from my mouth with every passing breath.
If I were to take my life
Would I be a coward attempting to free myself from this strife?
Life is all I have and often it is not pretty.
So I lay down my machete.
I will keep in my mind all the things happy and joyous
That I have known before
And write them down in my book of lore.
I know that things get better before the end
And, therefore, my hurt will always mend.
So I will keep my faith and stay the course;
Never showing an ounce of remorse.
