“Beware” - by J. Samuelson Copyright©2001 01/26

Once I was lost
In the raging sea.
Waves of guilt
Crashing around me.
My heart,
As my vessel,
Slowly sinking.
My hope,
As my mast,
Has fallen.
The relentless swells
Not ceasing.
Tossing my life about
Without a care.
Persisting until it succeeds
It’s destruction.
Relaying a message
Of improbable perseverance.
Forcing a change of course
For survival.
Thundering it’s voice
To turn around.
Leave before
It’s too late.
One more chance
Will be granted.
Take it
Or leave it.
Or the end
Is now near.
The voice is calling
Beware.
The final
Moment has come.
Decide
Or it will be decided.
Head in
The right direction.
Fate is
Your compass
And guide.
About face
Or sink,
No more time.
Instant choices
Prevail.
Hesitation
Brings lost compassion.
The voice says
One last chance
Beware.
