And It Starts Again

And it starts again.
Anger flashes through his eyes
And qualls the sweet repose
That was there
Moments before.
Words are said,
Hers feebly,
His filled with irritation
That she did not understand
What he meant in his own
Equivocal state.
He hits her.
She flies across the room
And with her myopic vision
Can only see that she deserves it.
That he loves her.
And so she stays,
Whimpering in the corner
Until he leaves her alone
And she's allowed to come to dinner,
Like a dog who must be taught
Not to jump onto the table.
No self-worth,
No self-esteem,
Nothing.
Just pure humiliation--
Time and time again.
Night passes to day,
Day passes to night,
And it starts again.
