the silver lining to my darkest clouds
revolving around me as I just burned
always there for me when I cried so loud

all these years, I’ve painted you with wings
ask anyone
every single praise of yours I’d sing
and I’m not done
but lately your shine’s not so blinding
you’re in shadow
I’ve been holding out but keep finding
fading rainbows

you came to me with hurts that pierced my heart
I thought you knew that’s not what you deserve
but you turned around, got down on your knees
and let him clip your wings, exposed the nerves

so there’s nothing left for me to say
you’ve heard it all
feels like watching works of art decay
as cold rains fall
just watching helplessly with hands tied
I heard him say
that his cruelty was verified
how’s that okay?

are those my old shoes you’ve been walking in?
echoes of my own mistakes keep sounding
that kind of life was never meant for you
but all these storm clouds keep on abounding

all these years, I’ve painted you with wings
