Wings of blackened thread

Flanks the ravens weary head,

To soar the sea of night/'/s allure

Without the gale of day/'/s demure.

His flight will cast a spell

On souls asleep inside their shell,

Fantastic terrors play the night along,

And sing their dirge of bleak December song.

The purple curtains hide the crying moon,

That once sang down a placid tune,

A tapping on the rusty chamber door

Echoes through the halls of ancient lore.

The raven/'/s flight slips past the gleam of dawn

And stays inside the night to dream along.
