Just Like That

Blood cannonballs my hollow highways,
rods and cones spark, ever loyal soldiers.
Smiles snap like a love whipped flag,
bones do my bidding on cursed command.
The Dead Beetle had no fangs when my smile was sincere,
life bounced off what I thought was steel skin.
Pincers pinced within while I gazed on who I hoped to be,
To late now, to ever know that me.
Decades of vigilance and now on the doorstep,
the Idea in flesh and creased attire, pressed to hide the two versions at war.
My hair, as any good sheep, is sheared to the norm,
and who would know behind these doe eyes twists a storm.
My furry friend cried now in her sleep; a moment, our eyes meet,
and just like that, my abyss crumbled in retreat.
