Whaling Away Their Time!

Warm blood, cold water, kind soul,
Whales we should but praise,
Lives as long as mind can fathom,
Such sights seen that would amaze,
These mammals of the deep, gentle as they are,
Bare treatment such that one might weep,
For man has feared and man has struck,
And even with our modern ken
divined now truth of manner,
We strike, we strike, we strike again!
...All the time clear as day,
Known without a doubt,
They`ll be gone, no if, just when,
The final flame snuffed out.
