So much effort spent;
So little in return;
Just to eat and pay the rent;
Life isn’t ours to burn.
Some of us are warriers
Who battle every day;
Some choose to be the nurturers
To find us where we lay.
Some live street and gutter lives;
Dining on the crumbs.
Surviving as each day arrives;
Dealing with what comes.
Most will join the masses;
Conform to their design;
Take their thirty lashes;
Endure the daily grind.
You may depend on knowledge;
While others live on guile;
Gutter smarts or college;
Survival has no style.
Some are born with all they need;
Some never find their niche.
Success depends on what we want;
And how we scratch that itch;
I wish there was an answer;
No matter what our plans;
No dance fits every dancer;
We dance as best we can.
