The Drugstore

As a child I went to look;
For candy, toys and comic books.
As a teen for cigarettes;
Lipstick, hairspray; Chia pets;
Later movie magazines;
Diet drinks to keep me lean.
Then I went to shop for two;
Shaving creams and ramen stews!
Soon enough I brought from home;
A tiny sleep thief of our own!
As one end leaked and one end cried;
The pharmacist became my guide;
Diapers, toys, and teething rings,
Baby bottles, books that sing;
At last with grandchildren in tow,
I share the place Ive come to know;
And I revered as worldy-wise,
Owe it all to one disguised;
As just a store on any street;
Where children come to pick a treat;
While I share store-ies once again;
With those who knew me way back when.
From jelly beans to walking canes;
The corner drugstore still remains;
In many towns a legacy;
In many hearts a memory.
