A Self-Righteous Husband

my husband is self-righteous
perfect in every way
he's always right
and never wrong
guess he was raised that way

to change him now could not be done
he's so set in all his ways
never says I'm sorry
argues loud and to himself
this way he knows he's always right
what a sin he is this way

My kids can leave his rhetoric
they're prepping themselves now
out in the world to find someone
without their father's wiles

all the hurt he's done to me
he cannot see at all
so I must wallow in my tears
for of course it's all my fault

i say let's talk
please listen here
but he yells and walks away
perhaps when i'm 6 feet under
he'll hear himself and say.....
on second thought, you know he's right
in all he says and does
after 30 years I do give up
this struggle to be right

his family he respects so much
he stands up for them not me
our wedding day he took a vow to always honor me
if i had known then what i do now
what would have come of us
his sister he should have wed
for she is loved so much

self-righteous is a sad way
to live within our world
it shades it a gray color
and makes those we love despair

how did you get this way
were you like this way back when
if just I had a time machine
i'd find that young love masked
all the bad there was to see
while looking through pink glass

if this poem sounds familiar to some of you out there
let's form a club of talk 'n gab and come up with a prayer
for all denominations to say while bridled in the ways
of a person so within theirselves, so right in every way
let's change the world from gray to pink
rejoice each and everyday
for the self-righteous people will finally see their way
