Come, lets explore before texting and tweeting!
How words have evolved as the years went around;
Before our computers silenced the sound!

The term double header for two in a row;
Comes not from baseball, but railroads you know!
Before trains had turnarounds built in the tracks;
And ran with an engine in front and in back!

If you own a BLUE CHIP stock, here is the joker:
Theyre named after hi roller chips used in Poker!

Farmhouse mud floors were once covered with thresh;
(The unwanted wheat stalks that held in the mess).
The wood bar that kept mud from sliding through doors;
We still call a Threshold tho thresh is no more!

POSH came to mean a sheer luxury!
It comes from the liners that traveled the sea;
Before we had locks every ship had to cope;
With sailing around the Cape of Good Hope.

The very best staterooms always faced land;
So for an extra couple of grand;
You had the best view that any ship owned;
It faced Portside Outbound, and Starboard Home!

Golf gave us terms like Teed Off when we’re mad;
And Not up to Par when were sick or were sad;
A mens-only game says the name it was given:
Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden!

Thousands of words we used to all say;
Are shortening, changing, or fading away;
Like billow for wave, or bussing for kissing;
Quick for the living, or harken for listening!

But that is a story for some other time;
For love of lifes sounds, I leave you this rhyme:

Language needs usage to rise to the fore;
Our voices and laughter, its musical score!
Speak and make sound, so new words will grow;
A symphonys never been texted, you know!
