The Selkie
The white gulls traced their way
Among the wave wracked lines
Of deserted shell and seaweed kelp,
There she climbed from the tide
Onto my hermit beach,
Where she left her sealskin self
Hidden among the rocks.
Her selkie tracks climbed upward
To the bluff
Where in my hut of shipwreck plank
And mermaid drift
she met me,
full of words of beauty and desire.
For a shadowed night,
She took my arms, only to return
In the morning wind
To her skin of damsel brown
To dance on sea wave lace
And swim my love away
