~Make it till Spring~

Winter tucked in
and keeps holding on.
Frozen ground.
Memories of younger years
a loss of a son,
Holding onto things
with stubborn steadfastness
but slowly failing,fading away.
A prideful man,
always work to do at hand
not wanting help
or rest enjoyed.
Ghosts rest in his eyes sometimes
I've seen them there over the years
never to be revealed
rather tucked in his own heart and mind.
Speaking out loud,
"I wonder if I'll make it to Spring"?
That is what he says
one thought not kept hidden.
Spring is near,
I ponder that statement,
make it to Spring?
Only to die?
Not sure really
what is in my dad's mind,
now, and many times
any.
My heart is filled with dread
as I sit a couple states away,
From where dad and mom sit
on another Winter's day.
I too am ready for Spring
as the sky clouds up
and it begins again to rain.
Now I am not so ready for Spring after all.
