Down by the sycamore tree
Close by the waterin' stream
far away as childhood dreams,
oh, how the memories come.
I remember how we used to run
that German Shepard sure wanted some
Down by the sycamore tree, my god we had some fun.
That time was forty years ago,
longer than some lives I know
'fore booze n' pills n' bags of blow
brought the fun to an end.
Well, I drove by the other day
tree sure as hell is there to stay
n' kids were out there hard at play
not knowin' what's to come
One'll die of an overdose,
another'll end comatose
that handsome one will lose his soul
If they knew they’d hold
these times so close,
the way I never did,
the way I never did.
Down by the sycamore tree
Close by the waterin' stream
far away as childhood dreams,
oh, how the memories come.
