The Homecoming
At one time I stood tall among the crowd
My head held high and my voice clear and loud
Several years spent building bonds that should stand the test of time
Was it all real or just some wishful thinking in my own mind?
Events and life had pulled me away
I always had thoughts of returning one day
Worried about how I would be viewed and how it would go
Kept me held at bay, my face afraid to show
Recent conversations and requests have caused me to rethink things
So a quiet homecoming was set into motion, no fanfare or bling
A kind words and comments that were properly shared
Stirred the memories of those awaking memories of one who once cared
A simple smile on the face of one who understands lifts a weary heart
It quietly welcomes me home to the place where I got my start
Wide open arms of those who knew me the best
Gives this old ghost hope that the bonds have withstood the test
