The sweet aroma of Vanilla and Cinnamon

The warm embrace of daylight as it creeps through the blinds

The crackling sound of that honey-cured ham dancing in the pan...

Awake

Here...

In the place we call home

Laying in a sea of cotton

Beside the imprint you left behind

I glide my hand across it...

Still warm

I hear the faucet downstairs

Your slippers are gone

Where do mine reside?

(Dinner. Late Night. Movie? You fell asleep)

(I carried you up the stairs, ignoring the cold sting of the tile floor)

(As you whispered, "Don't forget the dishes.")

(I smiled as I laid you down to sleep)

(Beside you...)

The couch

They lay beside the couch -- My slippers

Forced to brave the cold

I venture out

Following the distant sound of you humming that song you love so much

What was it?

The song you sang that night...

(As we left that Karaoke Bar)

(You whispered it to me as we sat tangled in the back seat of the taxi)

(Towards your apartment)

(You rode with me through the night)

(As the STOP signs passed us by)

(We danced...)

The refrigerator door closes

As I make my way down the stairs

Blinded...

By the Sun's glare

I find you

Pouring liquid sunshine into my half-empty glass

You look up at me and smile

And that's all I need

That's all I've ever needed

To feel...

You share your warmth with me as I wrap my arms around you

I treasure this moment

This feeling

I shall never let escape

It's all I have left

Because the truth is...

You're not here

You're there...
