An angry boy once heard the trumpet blow of a lonely girl
Something inside his black soul stirred, and his apathy began to unfurl
He knew at once she must be protected,
This kind of concern was usually rejected
"Like hell I need your help!" she said
But this wise boy just shook his head
He cut out his heart and bled on the page
It flew out like a bird, freed from its cage
Despite herself, she had to get closer to him to inspect
Like a tether to sanity, his words started to connect
They wrapped her up in protective layers that made it tough to breathe
A warm fluttering deep inside suddenly made her seethe
An overwhelming feeling of kinship and love was hers to seize
But the fear of more rejection made her cold heart freeze
She lashed out with words, as if the simple act could make him dead
"My words, like my existence, mean nothing", was all that he said.
