bedraggled from
a seeping flood,
the sound of music
tingled my toes
and jangled in my blood

an ebon mamma,
large and proud
heaved her breasts
and sang out loud;
love and loss and pure desire,
heartache and grief within the fire

honey dripped from her throat,
a history lesson in every note!
and for a song she had my all,
as I cried and smiled and sighed

the set was done, but
I was changed
thoughts and feelings rearranged;
a connection to a place and time
formed in 12 bar blues

on a sidewalk in New Orleans,
cacophony of noises rife;
the euphony still
in my blood,
and pumping through my life.
