THE LONG NIGHTS OF WINTER

it is the long nights of winter that i shall fear
long nights of cold, and unfriendly isolation
slow evolving hours, without a whispered ear
i will miss your lovely touch in my mistaken hibernation

i do desire that which i have held dear and very close
i ask for one more day to prove that i love you
it is your absence of presence that is ailing all the most
a sickness, causing my heart to become blue

i would quickly trade a kingdom, or a perfect paradise
to lie with you as my woman to your man
i would lose myself in your scent, and in your eyes
as we journey into tangled love once again

instead, i will bundle myself in useless intent for survival
to freeze alone in the grip of this devil
i will cast myself down, when its storm makes arrival
in my death, to be covered by evil, to level

release me, separate me from the unpleasant chains
lift the weight from my chest and my soul
wash away my worries with your delicate rains
pull me free from this bottomless hole...
