Back after a while away and glad to be back [bodytext] => They came at first light, sweeping in like raging storm
Fast hooves and the clink of irons cut morning silence
Justice would be swift, verdict of the bullet
Final as full stop at the end of a sentence

Jury on horseback gathered, while orange sun lifted into summer sky
Painting long shadows in the dry dust of early morning
Faces brief at half shuttered windows played unwilling audience
To the clean and clinical, cold steel for cold heart

The line moved forward, to meter justice for those of silenced voice
No trial, just retribution marked by deed and smoking barrel
Death would not be savoured, nor pity bestowed
Merely chapter closed on a book whose story had soured

Air stilled as if expectant, creaking door swung wide
Light pierced smoky darkness, to the figure stowed within
Surprise gave way to panic, took in the mask of fear
This time there would be no escape, all forms of exit sealed

Gunshot now played centre stage as heavily he fell
Eyes stared cold and lifeless as so many times before
Now he lay as victim, death claimed a soulless friend
Where blood ran cold, the lost reclaimed, a life to save more lives.
