Fall blew in with a drift of wind.
The sky azure blue, not a cloud to be found
no rain puddles gathering round on the ground.
The sun shined bright, the wind drifted through leaves now turning gold.

I, driving my friend to the hospital
she knew the time for her dear mother was near.
She said,"today is the day a beautiful day,
none finer for her fall journey home.

It is always so hard to say goodbye
but she wanted her to go.
An end to suffering, a peaceful rest
to the Golden Valley where she would be made whole.

I watched my friend and saw such strength
as she sat silent with her thoughts.
I thought what a beautiful thing to say,
I told her she should give her permission
to softly fade away........
Of course, she already knew this...
and she did, she did.....

I waited around the hospital,
then I walked outside.
Her words drifting again to me
and with her I had to agree.
Such a beautiful warm fall day
a perfect day to make her journey.

She passed away, with her loved ones near her side.
Pain and suffering over now
but sadness none the less denied.
I couldn't imagine it, I haven't crossed that bridge
haven't had to say goodbye to my mother.
I did a little over a month ago
have to say goodbye to my older brother....

My friend and I drove home, a bit silent.
I knew her heart was hurting but relieved at the same time.
In times like this it's hard to know what to say or do
So we just drove for home.

I know she was also worried
about her sweet dad,
for you see her mother and he
had shared a lifetime they had.
Married and together, heading for 60 years
what a priceless life journey they had
good, bad, happy and sad together through it all.

She made her journey to Heaven
and what a beautiful fall day it was.
No rain clouds or sopping rain
Heaven was waving with the bright sun
come home sweet angel come home.

For my friend Kelley's mother Lela, I was just getting to know her....... glad I had a chance [comments] => 4 [counter] => 155 [topic] => 39 [informant] => shelby [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Grief ) Your Poetry Dot Com - A fall Journey

Summer seemed to find us late in the Pacific Northwest.
