Raising Hell

laboring this night late in the lab
cold and lifeless lies a form on the slab
his whole life's work to be put to the test
some say he's insane, just crazy the rest!
he stands there eager, his hand on the switch
then a strike in the sky answers his wish!
he pulled on the handle, and grinned as it fell
the moment has come, it's time to raise hell!
the form on the slate studders and stammers
as the floor beneath shudders and clammers
convulsing hands jerk with fingers that spread
it seems to be alive! it's no longer dead!
he throws off the switch, the deed has been done
what lies before him? this abomination!
will he be punished for this? only time will tell
it can't go to heaven, so let's send it to hell...
