Chained in a cold cell
Fed through a hole in the wall
I dreamt about you in midday
Wept for all that we lost
When there was nothing left to mourn
Daylight swept up from the east
Brilliant sky promised clemency
Burned my eyes with blueness
Choked me with insincerity
As I wept for your bones
Caskets cannot keep you
Blood of martyrdom spilled
Across the barren land
Distilled into the heart of Ireland
Sweet king of my heart
Avenged in the bed of your murderer
I will relieve him of his life
His severed head will adorn your battlements
When winter chases the leaves from trees
And blood runs red upon the snow
Your sons return from foreign lands
Armies under your banner unite in victory
