Love is a wound

Love is a wound.
The pain weighs heavily on my heart,
caves in the shoulders,
leaving limp and lifeless.
Silent to your devastation.

A lifetime of apologies
and heartache cannot redeem.
Only your capacity to love
can bind what already exists.

Hope is layed in your craddle,
constantly fanned in hopes
on being lit.
I hope you can fall in love again.
God knows I don't deserve it,
for it was I who blasphemed,
I who disgraced the altar
and I who tore down the walls.

I didn't even see it coming -
you had no chance.
And now you must stand
and decide whether to build again.

I sit here numb next to the actions
that have led us here.
Any actions from here on in
are tainted.
Truth is buried beneath itself
for even the choir has sinned.
The preacher was blinded
by his isolation.

But all those words mean nothing.
It is my soul that cries out,
wails in muted sighs
that can never be heard.
I am a shell without you.
