intensity of prevailing winds
caste into extravagance
death seems to pale
in the distance a dark oasis
where once a heart beat
devoted to a soul
set its mind against me
cast off the faded light of day
sliding into effortless sleep
joining smoothe edges
once too sharp and painful
against each other's throats
without meaning to cut so deep
what was the intent then - if not pain?
i cannot say, for i do not know
my mouth lacks laughter
my cracked lips bleeding
from want of a single kiss
you would not bestow
now there is no other lover
no room or place for him to go
my linen and lace are pristine
a snowy bed of peaceful repose
haunted only by the dream
