I Used to be a Dreamer

I used to be a dreamer
Growing up within my mind
A place as wild
Or as vivid as I want it to be

I used to be a superhero
One day, and then the next
I could become a fireman
as my imagination allows

I used to live in a circus
With carousels and flying cats
One day, and then the next
I could become a princess
living in a quaint palace

I used to be different
From anyone else, I was unique
I used to lie and fantasize
Conjuring castles in the sky

Today, I am another person
As normal as every other
Terrified to be unusual
Afraid to be the odd one out

Today, I am living
In a world of black and white
Of blunt reality
That hinders dreams
Outlaws fantasies
And slaughters ambitions

I have been dead before,
When they took my dreams away.

People don't stop dreaming just because they're growing up.
They grow up, the moment they've stopped to dream.
