On the Bottom

Naked bodies writhe on silky sheets,
Teeth and scratch marks healing over,
Afterglow sputters and goes out

Truth surfaces, time for the soreness
His snores pierce the night and sink my euphoria
His arm cinches tighter around my waist, my frown deepens

Sleep is distant wispy cobwebs
Annoyance flashes, tiredness wears
Never what you think it will be

Blurs on the edges of my vision threaten to take over
Burn me away with fire and bury the pieces
All I am is pieces

I am what settled on the bottom,
The dirty remnants
Forgotten and stale
Too broken to finish this tale

Bring me back to life
I can’t plunge this knife any deeper
Eyes dry and conscience fading

Escalading and I don’t want to stop it
Let the other side rise
Time to become that monster in the dark
Give me my tribute
