What little girls should know

Woman's body
ravaged beneath man's touch
his prowling eyes
his lust
his lack of words, of heart
his quick rise of anger
of words cruel and unkind
When we were little girls
we dreamed of prince charming
of men with gentle hands
and strong verses of adoration
of heroism and destiny
We got clumsy fingers, orders
Musky odors and sweaty skin
bodies to fall into, to cry from
mistakes to cradle like deep wounds
scars to remember, fresh and old
There is no man without flaw
and rarely a woman
whose dreams became reality
