Running

I lace up my tennis shoes
And start running through the streets
No one but me, my music, and my pace
The melodies let my mind wander
Remembering what used to be
What might have been
I start to concentrate on my body
My movement and the pavement
Trying to forget all the rest
Forget the broken promises
Forget the now-false strength and passion
Forget the bad memories
Forget the horrible depression
And forget loss of the one I will always love
But
That song comes on,
The one you said was just for me
As the tears start to flow,
I curse myself for keeping the song
As I push harder and harder,
I’m sprinting as a panther
The hurt fuels my muscles
Harder and harder,,,
Maybe it’ll stop the pain
Make your face leave my mind
Fill the gashed-up hole in my chest
But as my muscles finally collapse
And I gasp for air
I close my eyes
And you are still there
