A Fascination With Fire and Broken Glass

Satan’s on the clearance rack
For $400 at Armani and Gucci.
Better get it while it’s hot
Before the new trend keeps food off the table.
You have no need for your perverse priorities.
And you’ll readily admit that shopping is not a hobby
While wearing 12 meals worth of blue jeans.
But behind your own back,
You go and defy self-logic.
Readily accepting hypocrisy with a smile.
Complaining about the wrong Mercedes.
It’s not the red one, is it?
Set fire to the ashes
With the leftover disdain from
The glorious high school years.
I smashed the mirror and left it lying there.
Threw on that old, ratty t-shirt
And felt the glass in my feet.
I dress for successful arson
And sending a thank you brick into your living room.
