Here I Stand

Here I stand, adrift on the winds of memory
Gazing out to an azure crystalline ocean
While above me hangs a crimson-orange sky
Upon the shore lay giant chasms
Wounds across a once proud nation
Scaring her once beautiful face
Here I stand,
Before your resting place here on this coast
I told you I'd be back
In this foreign soil you sleep
To us, life has been cruel and most unkind
Thrust into violence and death we were
Guardians against evil, Heroes of the nation, Lambs to the slaughter
On that day, oh how well i recall
The skies rained blood and bullets
The chasms left from god's great furry
Making bowls of bodies and pools of blood
Now old friend this land is at peace
I wish you could see it now
How much has changed, yet still stayed the same
Now my old friend 80 odd years on, once more...
Here I stand.
