Quickly,
Making enemies
When friends are needed
When battles are defeated
Demons have receded
Into the backdrop of all previous
While all have seen these
Displays of achievement
A matter of convenience
To become obedient
Or die with expedience

Still,
I remain unimpressed
As your words begin to digest
The very interior of my pounding chest
My thoughts of love
On to you I must confess
The true fight which is fought
Counteracting my loneliness
Balanced scales weigh my wishes
Knives and forks to compliment expensive dishes
Surreptitious with secret ingredients
No additives or preservatives
Fresh hooked fishes
Herbs from the market
The provisions
Combine for a delicious
Meal of imposed conditions

In the search for the self
Identification reaches its worth
Actualized from dust to dirt
The being itself hurts
Seeing compliments touching in turn
Ice sheets melt
As the core intensifies its burn

Cemented in permanence
Lamented with purpose
A preponderance of punctual performance
Roots dug deep in family trees
Heritage, traditions, culture
The past rationalized with ease
Language altered
Faces swelter
Fear of the circling vulture
A request for freedom is followed by a prompting please
Declined the simplest of basic luxuries
Confined and shackled to the choppy seas
Caution to the breeze
Lotion to soften the chafed knees
Praying for a sign
As I live, stand and breathe
