One Last Time

A cold nest rests
with so much space
but there is only one face
perched beside it, glaring off
into the distant blue.
Frail, her colors pale.
Watches as a leaf
brown and rigid falls
to the frigid ground.
And only she is there to
hear its sound.
Stirring deep inside
she feels a feeling
no one could hide.
With no warning and no goodbye
she spreads her wings to fly
one last time into the morning sky.
