I walked along the shores of the bank
Where I saw love that laid itself sleeping
I could hear from the rushes dank
A voice, weeping, weeping

Then I went to the forest that was wild
I saw the thistles and thorns of waste
Here I heard the voice of those beguiled
Being driven and compelled to the chaste

Next I went to the Garden of Love
A sight! That I had never seen
An angel who stood in the low
Where I used to stroll on the green

And the eyes of the angel were shut
If it will open, so my heart`s door
My heart is filled with love in glut
Where so many sweet flowers bore

I again turned to the Garden of Love
Where each grass seemed a flower to me
And my lady started walking now
Approaching me, she smiled with glee!
